Department of Homeland Security Update
On October 28, 2008 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the final rule for a program called Secure Flight. The purpose of Secure Flight is to enhance the current security of domestic and international air travel through the use of improved government watch list matching.
Upon full implementation of the Secure Flight program, the airlines will be required to provide the TSA with the following information:
- Passengers Full Name (as shown on state or government issued identification documents such as a State ID Card, Drivers License or Passport).
- Date of Birth
- Gender
Without this information you will be unable to print your boarding pass on line and will experience security delays at the airport.
S.R. Travel will provide the airlines with this necessary information each time we make reservations on your behalf. In order to provide you with seamless service and to avoid any disruption with your travel plans it is essential that you update your Traveler Profile.
The Secure Flight program will become effective in two phases
- May 2009 - Phase 1 - Includes flights between two domestic points within the United States.
- September 2009 - Phase 2 - Includes flights overflying the continental United States, covered flights to/from the United States, and all other flights (such as international point-to-point flights) operated by U.S. aircraft operators not included in first phase.
By providing the additional data elements of gender and date of birth, Secure Flight will more effectively help prevent misidentification of passengers who have similar names to individuals on the watch list.
